June 29 SweetnessWe went to the camp yesterday because Chelsea asked for us to come and not skip a day. We brought with us 5 squirt guns, and snacks for the kids and candy for all the kids. We started the day with a fantastic squirt gun fight that included mommy and daddy. Everyone was laughing, squeeling, and having fun. We played for a long time and then other kids wanted to play as well. So they shared their guns and had a ball! While they were playing, Thom and I went to go give out candy and take pictures. The kids were all very appreciative. They were happy to have the candy. We saw one girl with a puppy so we took her picture. The other kids came running to get their pictures taken too. After the picture, they all tackled Thom to see their image. this was a great game for them all.
After a while, I needed to go to the bathroom. Chelsea took me to her Dorm. She asked her caretaker, and lead me upstairs. When I was done, the caretaker asked me questions about the flight home and how long. We "talked" awhile and then Chelsea asked her a question. She called her Mama _________. She immediately said, Net, and called her only by her name. Then she turned to me and called me Mama. I was so shocked and happy. It never occured to me that she would even know the difference. Obviously to her, it already does. I was very touched by it. She didn't seem to notice the impact that it had on me. We went outside to do some more bonding things. I tried to have her interact with the other children in her group. She wanted nothing to do with them. She obviouly wanted to be with us, and especially Jessica. She wants to just be IN our family and move on to a normal life with her Mama, Papa, sister and brothers. She has already said good bye to her old life and is eager to get moving on. As we were walking, at one point, I told her that I love her. She replied that she loves me too. I believe she does!
I then spent some time with Cody. He is very quickly grabbing my heart! He has such a special smile that is reserved for me. I can see the love in his eyes. It is amazing. I was prepaired for it to take a long time to get to where we are. They are such special kids! Cody and I went to go see his friends. They were outside for the first time since we had been there. I watched as he played with his buddies. They are all very gentle with each other, but still boys. They took turns squirting the gun and laughing. As I watched him, the little girls started to gather around me. I was suprised as I didn't have candy, toys, camera or anything! They were there just for a touch and some love! One brave little girl pressed against my leg in order to get some contact. I hugged her and kissed her on the head. She was very happy. The other girls followed her lead. Before I knew it, they were all wanting hugs and kisses. I was in Heaven!! Cody kept coming back to ensure that I was near, and his. I picked up one little girl and held her close to me. She mealted in my arms. As I heald her I kissed her arms and head. She was so sweet. The other girls wanted their turn all pleading for me to pick them up next. I told them one at a time. They waited calmly for their turn of about 5 minutes each. It was a dream. These kids are such sweet hearts! All of them. They are truly special, different from the ones I have met in the past. At all the other orphanages, there were very few that really touched me. Here, I could have easily taken home 20 more kids! I had to go because it was time for their lunch. I promised the girls I would return with my camera so that they could get their picture taken. I am trying to find enough Barbies and cars to bring one for each child in Cody's class.
Jessica told me that she LOVES her sister. Tommy is feeling closer to her as well. It is hard for him to see her as his sister instead of a girl, but it is happening. Mikey is still shy with her, but will interact with her. She still has to plead to let her hold him. She is persistant though! I like that about her alot! Also, she is very much a neat freak! Uh Oh! Jessica says she doesn't know what to do. She thinks she can be cleaner all right, but not ironed clothes and everything put in its place. What will she do? Thom and I are just happy. In fact, I haven't seen Thom so relaxed and happy in a very long time. He smiles much easier and says that he just wants to get home to start our new life. He feels complete now, as do I.
